7 Ways To Lighten Your Skin Naturally

Many lean towards skin lightening treatments to attain an even skin tone which works by reducing or controlling the amount of melanin in your skin. 

Various skin lightening treatments and whitening products contain dangerous chemicals like hydroquinone and mercury. Thus, it is recommended to avoid any products with these harmful chemicals and go with natural products. So here are some natural remedies that you can try at home. Try these 7 ways to lighten your ski naturally.

1.Lemon

Lemons are rich in vitamin c and antioxidants that help improve skin complexion.

Method: Squeeze the juice of one lemon. Apply it on to the skin using a cotton ball. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse your skin with warm water. Do it twice a week to see results quickly.

Caution: Don’t use lemon on sensitive skin and don’t go out in sunlight immediately after applying lemon juice.

2.Turmeric

Turmeric blocks the enzyme that produces melanin that gives dark colour to the skin. It also helps in maintaining healthy skin due to its antioxidant and antiseptic properties. Removes age spots and acne marks.

Method: Combine turmeric powder along with yoghurt to make a paste.  Apply the paste to your skin. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

3.Honey

Honey hydrates your skin and helps in attaining an even skin tone.

Method: Combine some coffee powder and honey to make a paste. Apply the paste to your skin. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

4. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera helps to lighten your skin and presents a natural glow to it.

Method: Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf. Add brown sugar to the gel and mix well. Apply this paste to your skin. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water.

5. Papaya 

Papaya is an acne fighter and functions as a natural exfoliator when used.

Method: Mash the papaya to a fine and a smooth paste. Apply this to your skin. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse using lukewarm water.

6. Gram Flour

Gram flour contains several nutrients that are essential for skin lightening.

Method: Mix gram flour with water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste to your skin. Leave it on until it dries. Wash it off with lukewarm water.

7. Potato

The phytochemicals in potatoes helps in lightening scars and acne and there by promotes clear and even skin tone. 

Method: Mix some potato juice along with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Apply it on to the skin using a cotton ball.  Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly using water.

Caution: Conduct an individual patch test for each of these remedies on your skin before trying as it may cause an allergic reaction.

You can adopt these preventive tips to block the formation of dark patches on your skin. Use these remedies twice a week regularly to achieve a glowing skin tone. Avoid sun exposure for long periods of time. Get enough sleep and rest your body for 7-9 hours a day. Stay hydrated by drinking at least 2 litres of water per day. Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater daily. Cover your skin with hats, sunglasses, scarves and long sleeves. Avoid aggressive scrubbing after washing and merely pat dry. Avoid the consumption of cigarettes and alcohol.
